How do KCKC Members know what’s happening?

KCKC Members communicate using the club’s forum. As a member you can “subscribe” to the different Forum topics that you want to be updated about, whenever someone posts a planned paddle or event.  Simply log-in to your account on the KCKC website, and click on the “Forum” menu option. As long as you have subscribed, you will get an email each time someone posts a new trip/event to the Forum.  The “Day Paddles” one is probably the most popular topics for posting trips and finding paddling partners!

See you on the Water!

Day, Evening and Weekend Paddles

Members of KCKC are encouraged to join in on planned paddles. Often these are short, social paddles, particularly suited to new members, giving an opportunity to meet other paddlers.

Kayaking Lake Okanagan
Summer in the Okanagan is ideal for after work paddles with friends!

Details and schedule of paddles are posted on the KCKC Forum (visible only to paid up members).

Paddles are categorized into different Trip Level Ratings and boat types.  Some examples are:  wildlife/bird viewing relaxed shore paddle (Level 1), evening play and training sessions (Level 1-3), fitness training sessions (Level 2), social paddle and shore snack (Level 1).

Pool Practice Sessions – Springtime !

Each kayaking season we begin in the lovely warm water of Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre in West Kelowna.

Pool Training
Training for wet exits, rolling, and rescues is much easier in the warm waters of an indoor pool!

These hour-long sessions are a great way to get some practice training with your boat in warm water before we get on the lake.  Many experienced members are typically in attendance and are usually happy to help with questions about rigging your boat for safety, how to exit your boat in the event of a capsize (wet exit), and best practices for getting help when you find yourself in the water.

Club members will be notified by email, and can register for pool sessions now.

Fintry Camping Weekends – June & September 2025

Each year the club books the group camping area at the lovely Fintry Provincial Park in June and August.  This location is ideal for paddling in a more remote area of Okanagan Lake without the noise and wake of some of the busier spots around the city of Kelowna.  We typically have a pot luck dinner one night and host some wonderful evenings of socialization and good company.  There are also great opportunities for hiking, nature observation and enjoying some of the historic legacy of the area’s first settlers.

Come join us to paddle and socialize for the weekend.  Join KCKC to book a spot. Bookings will be taken at the start of the 2025 season.

We also typically provide a training opportunity for beginner or intermediate paddlers looking to learn new skills and practice some rolls and rescues.

Beach Kayaks
Fintry PP is a beautiful spot for exploring Lake Okanagan

Flat Water Training – Fintry Campground (During our Fintry weekends)

Kayak Roll
Kayak Rolling is a nice skill to have in order to right your boat in an emergency.
This training is aimed at beginner and intermediate paddlers, working on stroke improvements and staying stable and safe on choppy waters.
Instructor: Each year we bring in a professional instructor for these sessions.

You must be a member of the club to participate in KCKC training.

KCKC Annual New Years Day Paddle and Social

Each year an intrepid group of club members join in a traditional winter paddle on New Year’s day to celebrate the beginning of another year of paddling in the Okanagan.  We are excited to start the year off on the water for those brave, hearty or just silly individuals who would like to join us.  In the past we have paddled in all variety of winter conditions from Bluebird double digits to frigid gray skies and ice weighing down our paddle blades.  We typically are on the water for about 1.5 hours depending on the conditions and then head over to a social gathering hosted by one of our club members.

This is a wonderful way to shake off those winter doldrums and burn off some Christmas Turkey.
