Event: Clearwater and Azure Lakes Camping Trip. Please contact Trip Initiator – Alan Whitmanagwhitman@vip.net
Date: Cancelled due to smoke
Where: Azure Lake, Thompson-Nicola A, BC V0E, Canada

This will be a five-day wilderness paddle on Clearwater and Azure Lakes in Wells Gray Provincial Park, August 26th through 30th, plus driving time to and from the Okanagan. This will be two weeks after the KCKC training at Fintry, and all paddlers must have had training in self rescues and group rescues, such as the training offered at Fintry or elsewhere.

Friday August 25th: Drive up to Clearwater.

Saturday August 26th: Depart the boat launch, located 3 km from the southern end of Clearwater Lake, at 10:30 am by water taxi one-way to Rainbow Falls Campground towards the eastern end of Azure Lake. The price is $125 per person plus $22 per kayak for the 90-minute ride. A reservation has been made for six people. If more people join I need to know soon enough to reserve more spaces before the day gets all booked. They can take 18 people a day.

www.clearwaterlaketours.com/services.php   Set up camp, view Rainbow Falls, and probably do some paddling.

Sunday August 27th: Paddle the scenic east end of Azure Lake. Campsite remains Rainbow Falls.

Monday August 28th: Paddle west 17 km on Azure Lake and camp at Osprey Campground (which is the first campground after Rainbow Falls).

Tuesday, August 29th: Paddle 16km to Huckleberry Campground on Clearwater Lake (including 2.4 km downstream on the Clearwater River which connects the two lakes).

Wednesday August 30th: Paddle 12 km back to the boat launch and the parking lot.

Thursday August 31st: Drive home. Don’t miss the incredible 463 feet-high Helmcken Falls on the road out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmcken_Falls

Wells-Gray Park has many other fine waterfalls as well, but it is Helmcken Falls which will make a lifetime memory.

All participants must realize that bad weather may prevent travel on some days and thus cause changes to the itinerary. We will not paddle if the weather is threatening or the waves are too high.
